Union School

Union School

In Johnson County in northern Arkansas you'll find a beautiful old schoolhouse with a long, interesting history. The original school was built in 1886.  That building caught fire during school services on January 27, 1928. A new building was built in its place during the Great Depression (1928-1929). The schoolhouse was also used for other purposes such as church services and community events. Bottom floor: Upstairs: I found this old Bible upstairs by the window: Historical photos and documents on sight:

Angels

  • January 11, 2015

So glad that our girls get to play together this year for the Christian Financial Principles Angels! I'll be taking plenty of photos this year and posting them to my SmugMug page. I'll try to get photos of each girl, although the angles on the court don't always allow it. You are welcome to share these photos and order prints through the website. Each photo has a "Share" button at the bottom left. All photos are printed at WHCC, a superb professional print shop located in Texas. For photos like this, I keep the price as low as possible. Call, email or text me with questions. God bless! Todd...

For Sale: Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for Nikon mount

This has been a beloved workhorse lens for me. I've switched to the Nikkor brand 70-200 so this Sigma is up for grabs. If you ask me, this is the most important lens to have for professionals and enthusiasts. At f2.8, this is a fast lens and it gives you great depth of field especially for portraits. It's great for weddings, outdoor shoots, events, sports, and more. The lens is only 2 years old and it has a 3 year warranty. I paid $1,200 for it two years ago and am asking $800. The lens is in perfect shape. No scratches or functional issues. Read more about the lens at Amazon and be sure to read...

Kings Bluff Trail and Waterfall

Kings Bluff Trail and Waterfall

The Kings Bluff and Pedestal Rocks trail heads are located in the same spot. Check out my Pedestal Rocks blog post for info on that hike as well. This hike is short and easy, but be careful! You're HIGH up along a bluff line, so I'd suggest leaving the kids at home for this one. The hike is only 1.9 miles with some moderate elevation changes. If you go at the right time, there is one of the tallest waterfalls in Arkansas at the mid-point. Click here to view or download my Gaia GPS data for this hike. After a short hike downhill through the forest, you come out along a bluff line. I was happy...

Dogwood Canyon near Branson, Missouri

Being in Arkansas usually means that you'll take many, many trips to Branson, MO. It's close, family-friendly, and there is quite a bit to do. We were wanting to do something a bit different this time, however. I found this place only 30 minutes away called Dogwood Canyon. It's a bit pricey, but what a neat place!

Frozen at Falling Water Falls

Frozen at Falling Water Falls

I love the scenery where I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas; but I have to admit, I'm mesmerized by North and North West Arkansas. There are some amazing views up there and tons of waterfalls. One of the most popular places to visit if you're a waterfall enthusiast is Falling Water Falls. It's an easy waterfall to find as it is right along a dirt road so no hiking is necessary. The view you receive can vary greatly depending on the time you visit. I decided to head there when temperatures were in the teens and wow it was worth it!

Fall Drive to Ponca

Fall Drive to Ponca

I was SO looking forward to driving up to Ponca early in the morning to shoot waterfalls.  The colors were peaking and weathermen were warning about getting up to 4 inches of rain! Yahoo! I got totally excited over that wonderful combination! Well, weathermen stink! We got less than an inch and waterfalls just weren't flowing. I almost canceled my trip completely but decided to take a photo journey anyways. It was a blast as I got to explore new areas and take in the beauty around me.

Foggy Sunrise at Lake Catherine

Foggy Sunrise at Lake Catherine

Fog is something I really enjoy photographing.  It can be tricky to capture properly, but it makes for some beautiful scenes!  These were taken at Lake Catherine State Park one morning. The first shot below isn't all that spectacular, but I loved how the sun was bursting through around the bend. My next shot I liked simply because I was able to capture some ducks swimming across the bay. This one is definitely my favorite. Be sure to click on it to see it full size on my SmugMug page to truly appreciate it.  The light, fog, lake, trees, mountains... a beautiful scene! And...

Pinnacle Mountain Hike

Pinnacle Mountain Hike

As crazy as it might sound, I had never hiked to the top of Pinnacle Mountain until recently.  I'm only about an hour away from this beautiful spot, but this was my first visit. Let me preface this by saying that I was a little over-confident!  I run a decent pace for a mile and run for about 5 miles.  The hike up Pinnacle is only about 1.5 miles round trip.  Well, add on top of that about 20 pounds of photography gear, a tripod, and a constant vertical incline and you end up with a very humbled Todd!

A Road No More

I took a short hike along the top of Hot Springs Mountain the other day.  Along the way, my journey took an unexpected turn that was quite interesting. I quite literally took "the road less traveled."
